"Italian Riviera Retreat"- a Yoga Retreat with Malaika

 Itinerary

Overview

Immerse yourself in one of the most beautiful regions in the world on a rejuvenating yoga retreat in Alassio, Italy.

Midway between the pesto capital of Genoa, Italy and the capital of the Côte d' Azur, Nice, France lies the resort town of Alassio and the historic Grand Hotel Alassio, the oldest hotel on the Italian Riviera with an idyllic seafront

location, complete with Thalassio spa and private beach.

Beyond yoga, days are filled with wonderful activities and discoveries, from a cooking lesson to unlock the secrets of the region’s world-renowned pesto or pizza to excursions to nearby seaside towns along the Riviera dei Fiori,

where you can sample the local wines, linger over a cappuccino at an outdoor café, visit with local artisans, shop, or just soak in the Riviera sun.

Daily Retreat Schedule

DAY 1 – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2023

A group transfer will be provided from Genoa, Italy to the Grand Hotel Alassio early afternoon (at 1:30 p.m.) Upon your arrival to the seaside hotel, enjoy a welcome beverage and overview of the property on check-in.

This afternoon, you have time to settle in to your room, unpack, and unwind before your first yoga practice. A welcome aperitivo and a three-course bistro dinner will follow at 7:30 pm,

Overnight at: Grand Hotel Alassio, Alassio, Italy

DAY 2 – MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2023

Every morning will begin with a yoga practice or meditation (between 6:30 and 7:30 am – time to be advised daily), and tea, coffee, and fresh fruit will be available prior. Weather permitting, morning yoga sessions will occur on the

private beach.

On this first full day, emerge energized from your yoga practice and refuel with breakfast of fresh baked bread and pastries, homemade jams, yogurt, granola and eggs. Afterward, take time to bask in the sun, swim, hop on one of the kayaks or paddle boards, or enjoy a massage or spa treatment (reservations required and at an additional cost).

Mid day, join your group for a stroll to a nearby enoteca, where you learn about (and sample!) local wines from crisp whites from nearby hillsides to the unique ruby red Rossese variety, along with delicacies of the region over a tapas-style lunch. Afterward, return to the hotel or explore more on your own, perhaps strolling the seaside promenade.

Late afternoon, prepare for an evening practice before stepping out on your own (or others in the group) for dinner on your own, perhaps at one of the many delicious trattorias or pizzerias.

Overnight at: Grand Hotel Alassio, Alassio, Italy

DAY 3 – TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2023

Arise to the sounds of the birds chirping, and head to the beach for morning practice. Enjoy a 90-minute yoga practice this morning before breakfast. Afterward, hop on the train with a local guide to reach a nearby trail head for a walk along the ancient Roman Way. This easy walk is accessible to all fitness levels and inspires with sweeping views along the coast.

Arriving back to Alassio in time for lunch (approximately 1:00 pm), there are many restaurants from which to choose for lunch on your own, from simple panino shops and pizzerias (10-15 euros pp) to more sophisticated restaurants (25 euros pp. Recommendations will be provided. Take time to relax or hang beachside in the complimentary sun loungers prior to the late afternoon yoga practice.

Dinner tonight is in the hotel’s bistro or gazebo restaurant and may feature spaghetti al mare (with seafood), tuna

with nori and datteri (cherry tomatoes), fresh fish with parsley sauce and fennel salad, or a creamy risotto with vegetables of the season. All meals will be topped off with a dessert (or dolce) of the day!

(Entry to the spa is included in the retreat cost. Treatments are at an additional cost and can be booked directly.)

You may want to rent a bike (the hotel reception can assist) and pedal to nearby towns, or kayak or hop on a SUP for a paddle. (The hotel offers a limited number of kayaks and SUP for guest use.) Weather permitting, snorkel and

boat tours to the nearby Gallinara island may be an option (at an additional cost and can be booked locally.)

Both lunch and dinner are on your own today, and restaurant suggestions will be provided locally. Gather for an evening practice to provide perfect closure to your day. (Time to be communicated locally.)

recipes).

The afternoon is yours to settle in for a siesta before a late afternoon yoga practice or meditation or shop for last

minute souvenirs or swim in the sea.

with light citrus sauce, oven-baked salmon with dill, and an insalata mista (mixed salad), topped off with tasty

dessert.

Malaika’s Italian Riviera yoga retreat is the second yoga retreat of Malaika’s that I’ve attended — and won’t be the last! Each one has been a life-changing experience for me. From the moment I arrived in Italy, I was enveloped in a serene atmosphere that allowed me to escape the stresses of daily life.

The picturesque setting, nestled in nature's embrace, was the perfect backdrop for our journey of self-discovery and inner peace. Malaika is an incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate instructor who guided us through a diverse range of practices, accommodating all levels of experience. Each class left me feeling stronger and deeply centered. What truly set this retreat apart was the sense of community it fostered.

I met like-minded individuals from around the world who shared their stories and created a warm, supportive environment. Evenings were filled with heartfelt conversations, starlit meditations, and delicious, nourishing meals that catered to various dietary preferences. The retreat's focus on mindfulness and self-care was evident in every detail, from the comfortable accommodations to the soothing spa treatments and excursions. It allowed me to reconnect with myself and find a sense of balance that I’ve been missing.

Overall, attending this yoga retreat was an enriching experience that rejuvenated my body and soul. I left with a newfound sense of serenity, a deeper understanding of yoga, and  new friends. I would highly recommend this retreat to anyone seeking personal growth, wellness, and a profound connection with both themselves and the world around them.
